Delta cribs recalled after babies die

October 27th, 2008 by Emily Marsh

As we have been reporting, according to the Associated Press, on October 20, 2008, 1.6 million cribs were recalled after the of two eight-month-old infants. The infants became stuck in the gaps of the cribs, resulting in them both suffocating.  In Delta Enterprise Cribs, if pegs are not installed or fail to engage, the drop-side separates, resulting in a gap in which babies can get stuck.

In one of the baby’s crib, no peg was installed, and in the other instance, the peg did not engage in the baby’s crib.

Nancy Nord, acting head of the Consumer Product Commission, says, “We ask parents to inspect your crib from time to time and tighten up the hardware. It’s very important that parents understand they need to inspect the integrity of the hardware.”

Of the 1.6 million cribs, 985, 000 drop-side cribs of numerous models were recalled because they may have missing pegs. These cribs were manufactured in Taiwan and Indonesia and were sold by Wal-Mart, Kmart, and Target.com from January 1995 and September 2007. The other 600,000 cribs, manufactured in China and sold between January 2000 and January 2007, were recalled because of spring-loaded pegs.

The company will replace pegs or give spring peg kits to all consumers. Fortunately, the does not involve current cribs in inventory.

Who would have thought a baby’s life could be threatened by a crib?

  • Lets hope this fine puts the guys who made it out of business or at least gets a change in management who can control their safety.
