10115c 100x100Another popular brand of strollers are being recalled by the manufacturer due to the risk of children’s fingertips being amputated or lacerated, according to the U.S. (). Graco Children’s Products Inc., of Atlanta, Ga., is recalling about 1.5 million strollers because the stroller’s canopy hinge mechanism can amputate or lacerate children’s fingertips while the canopy is being opened or closed. To date, Graco has received reports of five fingertip amputations and two fingertip lacerations. The recall involves Graco Passage, Alano, and Spree strollers and travel systems. For a list of Model numbers affected by the recall, visit Beasley Allen Recalls.

Graco’s stroller recall comes just two months after Maclaren USA announced it was recalling about one million of its Maclaren Strollers for the same reason. At the time of the recall, Maclaren had received 12 reports of fingertip amputation.

Graco manufactured the recalled strollers with two different hinge mechanisms. Only strollers or travel systems with a plastic, jointed hinge mechanism that has indented canopy positioning notches are included in this recall. The recalled strollers were manufactured between October 2004 and February 2008. The model number and manufacture date are located on the lower inside portion of the rear frame, just above the rear wheels.

The strollers were sold between October 2004 and December 2009 at numerous retail stores nationwide, including AAFES, Burlington Coat Factory, Babies “R” Us, Toys “R” Us, Kmart, Fred Meyer, Meijers, Navy Exchange, Sears, Target, and Walmart. The strollers sell for between $80 and $90, and the travel systems sell for between $150 and $200.

Consumers with Graco strollers that fall under the recall should immediately stop using them and contact Graco to receive a free protective cover repair kit. Consumers can contact Graco between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday at (800) 345-4109, or on their Web site at www.gracobaby.com.

Graco has made a video Safety Announcement showing how to attach the hinge covers. View it here:
