NYC sanitation worker killed on duty

fj 100x100A New York City sanitation worker died while on duty in Queens last week after being struck by a milk delivery truck. Forty-one-year-old Frank Justich, who worked for the city’s sanitation department for 11 years, had been removing trash from a street corner in Queens when a tractor-trailer rounded the corner too widely and pinned Justich against his own truck.

The was initiated by Fairbanks Farms and includes ground beef, meatloaf and meatball mix with the sell-by dates from September 19-28 and sold under brands such as Trader Joe’s Butcher Shop Fine Quality Meats, Giant Meatloaf & Meatball Mix, and BJ’s Lean Ground Beef, contains 7 percent fat.

NHTSA investigates rusting Toyota Tundra pickups

toyota capAlready preparing for its largest ever, Toyota Motor Corp may have to find a solution to a rust problem that reportedly affects some 218,000 Tundra pickup trucks. Responding to consumer complaints, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched an investigation into 2000-01 model year Tundra pickups. The agency received 5 reports asserting that rust on the truck frame severed brake lines. Fifteen additional complaints stated that rust caused the spare tire, which is mounted under the truck’s body, to detach.

Record settlement awarded to man who lost both legs on the job

cat track loader 100x100A 50-year-old Pennsylvania man, described by the Philadelphia Daily News as a “Softhearted ex-Marine” and father of two, recently settled a negligence mid-trial against his employer and Caterpillar, Inc., the manufacturer of industrial construction equipment, for $16.25 million. Scott Skirpan of Easton, Penn., lost both of his legs at the Northampton County landfill in a grisly accident in May 2006. Skirpan’s injuries were so horrific that he died twice before being resuscitated.
