Plant safety worsens after passage of workers bill of rights

production lineThe “Packinghouse Workers Bill of Rights,” passed by the Minnesota Legislature in 2007 as part of an effort to improve conditions for workers in the meatpacking industry, has failed to make any improvement, according to a report by Workday Minnesota. A recent survey conducted by the University of Minnesota’s Human Rights Program found that working conditions at meatpacking plants throughout the state actually have grown worse since the bill was passed.

Six-year-old Julia Griggs from Mahtomedi, Minnesota, was skiing downhill with her father at a recreational park last Thursday when she struck a tree head-on.

Brake problems prompt Toyota vehicle recalls

Jury awards $3 million to woman injured in sweeping vehicle crash

street sweeper1 150x150Bobbie Wakefield was driving her employer’s van along I-35 in Duluth, Minnesota, when she ran into something akin to a brick wall. She had struck a street sweeping vehicle operated by the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The vehicle was traveling 22-23 mph on an interstate where the minimum speed is 40 mph without an “early warning” vehicle traveling behind it.
