Freon leak eyed as culprit in Eastdale mall employee death

eastdale mall ice rinkEastdale Mall in Montgomery, Alabama, reopened last night at 6 p.m. after inspectors found it posed no risk to the general public. The mall closed on Sunday after the body of 22-year-old employee Nicholas Burdette was found in the bathroom near the mall’s skating rink. Some mall employees and others familiar with the mall’s facilities believe that Burdette was killed by a Freon leak around the Ice Palace skating rink that allegedly has made others sick in the past.

Guilty pleas for company, owners who distributed tainted pet food

pet foodA Nevada-based company and its owners pleaded guilty in federal court this week to distributing a contaminated ingredient used to make pet food, according to Online Montgomery. That tainted substance was linked to the deaths and serious illnesses of countless pets throughout the country, and resulted in a nationwide of pet food.

Lack of awareness, resources haunt brain injury victims

Her son Jason was 19 years old when he suffered from a TBI after being assaulted by three other men in Auburn, Alabama. Despite being shuffled between 3 hospitals and examined by a multitude of doctors, Jason wasn’t diagnosed with TBI until weeks after his . He was x-rayed and treated for other injuries, including a fractured skull and jaw, loss of hearing, nausea and imbalance. His most serious , however, went undetected and untreated.

Beasley Allen files lawsuit in Geo Tracker rollover death case

Cole Portis has filed a lawsuit for an Alabama woman whose husband was killed in a vehicular rollover accident while driving his 1993 Geo Tracker. The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama Northern Division, and names as Defendants Suzuki Motor Corporation; American Suzuki Motor Corporation; General Motors; General Motors of Canada, Ltd.; Cami Automotive Inc.; Takata Inc.; Takata-Fischer Corporation; Takata Fabrication Corporation; and Key Restraint Sysytems, Inc. Beasley Allen filed the complaint jointly with Robert Riley, Jr. of the Birmingham, Ala. Firm Riley & Jackson.

Traumatic brain injury: Jason’s story part five

jason 1 100x100Last month we shared the story of Jason Stanley, an Auburn University student who sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI)when three other men ambushed and maliciously attacked him in an alleyway. Jason lost consciousness after falling and hitting his head on the concrete pavement, yet one of the assailants continued to kick him in the face, according to a witness. The attack left Jason with a spectrum of physical and psychological problems – a fractured skull, severed nerves, loss of hearing, dizziness, anxiety, confusion, anger, depression – all symptoms of a TBI that took doctors days to discover.

Traumatic brain injury: Jason’s story part one

jason for web 100x100Carol Stanley’s life took an unexpected turn one day in January of 2007 when her son Jason, a student at Auburn University, was physically assaulted by three other men. The attack left Jason with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) that might have eluded medical staff if it weren’t for his worsening symptoms and his mother’s persistence in finding the right care for her son. The life-altering incident set Jason on a path to recovery and led Carol on an often frustrating crusade for better laws – laws that are more favorable to victims and less protective of those who commit the crimes. We will tell their story in segments over the next few days.

Beasley Allen represents Gadsden Man injured in collision

Montgomery, Ala. – Beasley Allen attorneys filed a personal injury lawsuit today in the Circuit Court of Etowah County, Alabama, on behalf of Terry Franklin against Zurich North American Insurance, Inc., Foxes Lounge, and Clayton Morgan. According to the complaint, Franklin was driving a tractor trailer on Highway 278 when defendant Morgan, driving a pick up truck in the opposite direction, attempted to make a left turn and collided with the plaintiff. The incident occurred on May 15, 2008. Franklin was severely injured in the collision and seeks compensatory and punitive damages in addition to legal fees.
