Baby teethers recalled, contain bacteria

baby with teething ring 100x100The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Luv N’Care of Monroe, La., have announced a nationwide recall of all Nuby Gel Filled, Cottontails and Playschool Teethers for infants because the gel in the products have been found to contain Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus circulans. These bacteria generally do not cause illness but can affect children with weakened immune systems, causing stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea if the teether is punctured and the liquid from the teether is ingested.

Powdered dietary supplements recalled for Salmonella contamination

salmonellabacteria 100x100The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is informing healthcare professionals and consumers of a nationwide on Vital Pharmaceuticals Stealth Chocolate and Stealth Vanilla powdered dietary supplements because the products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Nail polish remover recalled for risk of chemical burns

personalcare 100x100Personal Care Products has notified the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of a voluntary nationwide of one of its nail polish remover products because it has the potential to cause chemical burns to the fingers of users.

Bingham Farms, MI-based Personal Care Products has recalled all lots of Personal Care non-acetone nail polish remover, condition enriched with gelatin 6 fl. Oz., UPC 4815592076 because its formulation does not meet proper specifications. To date, the company has received two complaints from consumers of burns to the fingers resulting from use of the product.

The product is sold nationwide in small discount retail stores. Retailers are being instructed to remove the product from sale and to return it to Personal Care Products. Individuals who purchased a bottle of Personal Care non-acetone nail polish remover, condition enriched with gelatin is urged to return it to the store of purchase for a refund.
