A 12-year-old girl remained in critical condition Sunday after the safety net on a free-fall attraction failed to break her fall. The incident occurred at Extreme World amusement park in Wisconsin Dells – a region popular throughout the Midwest for its amusement parks.
A 15-year-old boy was killed and two others injured when a 30-foot concrete panel detached from a parking garage and fell in Milwaukee, Wisconsin yesterday afternoon. The incident occurred just after 4 p.m. at a garage located underneath a park across from the Milwaukee Museum of Art. Officials say that the decorative concrete slab fell from the garage’s façade onto a road leading out of the structure.
Concerns over brake problems in extremely cold temperatures with some Toyota vehicles has promoted Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. Inc., the U.S. division of Japan’s Toyota Motor Corp., and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to voluntarily recall about 95,700 Toyota and Scion vehicles.
A California produce grower has recalled romaine lettuce that was distributed throughout 29 states, Canada, and Puerto Rico because of salmonella contamination. Tanimura & Antle, Inc. of Salinas, Calif., issued the recall after the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture detected salmonella on the lettuce in a randomized test.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of three bicycle brands containing potentially faulty components. The recall includes approximately 3,600 Norco bicycles manufactured by Norco Performance Bikes of British Columbia, Canada; about 16,000 Trek bicycle models made by Trek Bicycle Corp. of Waterloo, Wisconsin; and approximately 1,500 Cannondale bicycles made by Cannondale Bicycle Corp. of Bethel, Connecticut.
“Americans are sick and tired of a system that so strongly favors big corporations over consumers and … robs them of their constitutional right to their day in court,” Senator Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) said in a statement concerning the proposed Arbitration Fairness Act. The act seeks to preserve our constitutionally guaranteed right to a jury trial should we ever need to settle a grievance in court with a company or an employer.
